Celebrating Mums

Celebrating Mums

Being a mother is a job on its own, it’s one of the toughest yet most rewarding things that we can experience. While some of us may not understand what it means to be a mum we appreciate and value all that they do for us, it is on this day that we want to extend our gratitude and thanks to all the mums out there.

Since the very beginning of our lives, our Mums are the ones who were by our side to nurture us, raise us with good morals and respect, they teach us what love is by showing it to us unconditionally. This motherly love is something we are truly grateful for here at Tigerlily, having many working mums at Tigerlily HQ (and many more on the way…) we are constantly surrounded by their loving nature.

To celebrate Mother’s Day we sat down with some of our HQ mums (and their adorable tiger cubs) to get a sense of what motherhood means to them and how being a mother has changed their outlook on life.

Meet Amelia and her daughter Paisley

TL: Tell us what you do at Tigerlily and how long you have been with the brand
A: Creative director almost 14 years

TL: What’s the best advice you’ve been given about motherhood or what advice would you give?
A: My mother always had the best way of putting things into perspective for us when we were growing up. Having 2 daughters in fashion she needed to bring us back down to earth occasionally.

TL: How do you like to spend your Mother’s Day?
A: Coffee in bed followed by a morning walk down to Coogee Beach with my baby girl Paisley and hubby Tommy.

TL: Who inspires you?
A: My mum named me after Amelia Earhart, she was the first female pilot to fly solo across the pacific. She was the ultimate fearless women, determined and resilient even when the odds were against her.

TL: What’s it like being a working mum?
A: I’m more efficient ha ha

TL: Motherly wisdom..?
A: Roll with it...😉

TL: At the end of a busy week, how do you indulge or really reward yourself?
A: We go for pizza at Vacanza in Bronte for the most delicious pizza and an aperol spritz

Meet Sarah and her son Tyler

TL: Tell us what you do at Tigerlily and how long you have been with the brand
S: I started doing work experience at Tigerlily during my final year of study. One thing led to another and many years later I’m still here, in the role of Art Director.

TL: What’s the best advice you’ve been given about motherhood or what advice would you give?
S: I think simply ‘follow your instincts’.

TL: How do you like to spend your mother’s day?
S: I’m new to it...so still working that one out!

TL: Who inspires you?
S: I think any mother to be honest. This first year has been such an experience...it’s been absolutely incredible, but a challenge at the same time. And I know I have so much more ahead of me.

TL: What’s it like being a working mum?
S: I think much has stayed unchanged – working for a brand and team I admire.

TL: Motherly wisdom..?
S: I just hope Tyler grows up to be grounded, open minded and inspired. So I would like to think I could help him along the way.

TL: At the end of a busy week, how do you indulge or really reward yourself?
S: I have a few little rituals I scatter throughout my week...it would be a shame to leave them until the end! But if I had to choose, a mid week dinner with close friends would be hard to beat.

Meet Sarah and her daughter Frankie

TL: Tell us what you do at Tigerlily and how long you have been with the brand
S: I’ve been with Tigerlily for 8 years. I’m Head of Merchandise so I’m happily involved in the design process and the design team overall.

TL: What’s the best advice you’ve been given about motherhood or what advice would you give?
S: Just to take it as is comes, there’s no right or wrong and you need to forge your own path. Just trust your natural instinct

TL: How do you like to spend your mother’s day?
S: I just want to hang with Frankie and the rest of the family.  It's generally a pretty lazy day if I’m honest, breakfast then hanging locally, maybe a walk to the beach if it’s not too cold.

TL: Which woman inspires you?
S: I couldn’t possibility narrow it down to just 1, I’m lucky enough to be surrounded by inspiring women on a daily basis.

TL: What’s it like being a working mum?
S: I’m far more patient and understanding than I used to be.  I also find endless inspiration from Frankie and her fun, positive energy.

TL: Motherly wisdom..?
S: Being a mother is a beautiful experience, I love that I get to teach my daughter about life and I try and be the best role model I can be. She also teaches me a lot if I’m honest!

TL: At the end of a busy week, how do you indulge or really reward yourself?
S: My idea of indulgence has definitely changed since becoming a mother. I like nothing more than a peaceful yoga class followed by coffee..with friends…or totally by myself is also fine!

Meet Brooke and her children Dylan and Taro

TL: Tell us what you do at Tigerlily and how long you have been with the brand
B: I have been a Designer for 6 years now.

TL: What’s the best advice you’ve been given about motherhood or what advice would you give?
B: It’s so easy to get caught up and be distracted, so it’s important for me to make the time I have with them all about them.

TL: How do you like to spend your Mother’s Day?
B: My son’s kindy have been teaching them how to massage so I’m looking forward to seeing how that goes... should be interesting! I can’t wait to relax & hopefully sleep in followed by a day with the family! My sister is due to give birth that day so it could become an extra special Mother’s Day.

TL: Who inspires you?
B: My mum! She has been so inspiring for my sister and I, especially as a single mother. Now having my own children makes you really appreciate what they have done for you.

TL: What’s it like being a working mum?
B: I think it makes me care more about sustainable and slow fashion. You are more money conscious and it makes me want to buy good quality, timeless pieces.

TL: Motherly wisdom..?
B: Life is short, and it goes so quickly especially when they are little. So don’t take anything for granted.

TL: At the end of a busy week, how do you indulge or really reward yourself?
B: I love the little things with my kids. We are fortunate enough to live on the coast, so going to the beach to hunt for crabs, swim, read a mag and chill.. usually followed by of course wine and good food at night!
